Samuel J. Alfano, 89, was called to the Lord on Monday, October 28, 2013 in the comfort of his own apartment. Sam was surrounded by his family which included his caregivers and Hospice of The Sacred Heart.
Sam was born on May 19, 1924 in Pittston and was the son of the late Angelo & Carmella Mantione Alfano. Sam graduated from Pittston high school in 1942 with the nickname of “FiFi”. After graduation Sam entered the military service where he was part of the 4th infantry division of the Army. Sam fought in WWII. He was decorated with several accommodations: Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, good Conduct Medal, Three Bronze Stars and Arrow Head for the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Expert Badge with the Rifle Bar.
After serving in the military he took some courses at Wilkes College Business School. He then went on to work for Milazzo’s and then Jenkins Hardware where he became part owner and eventually retired. Sam was also known as a local drummer. He played with Al Powel Orchestra and his own band “The Symphonettes”.
Sam was married 41 years to the late Sarah Giamusso Alfano. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Joseph Anthony & Victor; sisters; Tina DeFalco & Mary Morreale.
Surviving are his daughter Ann Marie who resided with him. He and Ann Marie were always seen together in the community; she is his pride and joy. Also surviving are his daughter Debbie and her husband Joe Kester of Larkesville. Sam had four grandchildren that he always felt blessed to have: Sarah, David, Rachel & Michael Kester. Sister: Rose Angelella and her husband Anthony of Old Forge; Sister in Law’s: Dorothy Crispino of West Pittston & Sue Alfano Trenton, NJ.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Twp., Pa 18640.
Viewing hours will be held for Sam on Wednesday October 30, 2013 from 5:0pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.
Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30am. Those attending should be at the funeral home no later than 10:00am on Thursday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Corpus Christi Parish Immaculate Conception R.C. Church on Luzerne Ave., West Pittston at 11:00am Thursday.
Interment Services will follow in Denison Cemetery, Kingston, Pa.
