Born in Duryea on December 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Leo & Caroline Hodick Sadowski. She was a graduate of Duryea
High School, where she graduated with honors. She previously lived in Falls & Inkerman (AKA Pittson). She was a member of the former St. Marks Church Jenkins Twp. Prior to her retirement she was a business agent for the ILGWU (International Ladies Garment Workers Union). Through the years she was based out of Utica, NY, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Harrisburg, and Scranton.
She enjoyed traveling and often spoke of her first trip to California on the Phoebe Snow Train out of Scranton in the early 1960ís. Since that trip she made many trips to California to visit her brother Joseph & family. She traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and many other States.
Evelyn aslo served as secretary for the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Plains. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Big Band Society. She spent many years at the Pittston Senior Center playing pinochle and volunteering for many activities all while contributing many donations.
Through her life she wrote many poems. She wrote about her life, rural living, family and birthday poems for her daughter.
Preceding her in death were her husband Walter W. Smith; Brothers Edward & Wife Martha Sadowski, Exeter, PA, Joseph Sadowski, Visalia, CA and sister Lorraine Sadowski, Duryea, PA.
Surviving are her daughter Barbara (Smith) Robinson and Husband John Robinson, Greentown, PA; sister in law Marion Sadowski, Visalia, CA and many nieces, nephews, cousins & grandchildren.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 S. Twp. Blvd., Pittston Twp., PA 18640.
Viewing hours will be held from 5:00pm Ė 7:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:00am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin on Wednesday at 9:30am.
The St. Maria Goretti Bereavement group will recite The Rosary in the church on Wednesday at 9:00am prior to the funeral mass.
Interment services will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Fall, PA
